After all the preparations, planning and waiting, it was time to get on the way...
We knew that getting to Namibia would take a while, so we were prepared for the next 28 hours! Or so we hoped because 3 flights and transfer that would take up to eight hours is exhausting. But we had to go through it in order to start our big adventure. And we knew that the whole ordeal of traveling to Namibia would be immidiatly forgotten the moment we wake up in Windhoek.
On July 31, the last day in Belgium, we said our final goodbyes to our parents. Sad that we are leaving, happy that we are taking this chance to discover the world. We indulged on some typical Belgian food one last time (steak with real Belgian fries!) and drove to Brussels Airport for our first flight.
Ethiopian Airlines brought us to our first stop, Addis Ababa, in 6,5 hours. After some food and well needed sleep we arrived and prepared ourselves for the next flight. We took place among the other travelers at gate 2 in terminal 2. The airport of Addis Ababa is currently under construction and you can see why. It is in desperate need of modernisation but in a way the old vibe made it just more vacation authentic...
After 2 hours we flew to South Africa. After 5,5 hours we landed in Johannesburg were we had to go through a passport control and security. This didn't take very long since we were like the only travelers getting a transfer, or at least it seemed that way. Then we killed our time eating a very nice hamburger and working on this website. Finally after 8 hours we got on our last flight to Windhoek, luckily it was the shortest one. Or not since I was left in economy while Jens got upgraded...
We arrived in Windhoek around half past ten in the evening and we were both very sleepy. Luckily our driver, Moises, was there to pick us up and to bring us to our first hotel, Cela, in Windhoek.
After getting used (=freaking out a little bit) to be driving on the left side of the road when it is completely dark and big lights are coming straight towards you, we arrived at Hotel Cela. We got straight into bed and slept until it was time for breakfast. After a revitalising shower and home made breakfast we made our way to the airport once more. Not to catch a flight but to pick up our car for our roadtrip!
We are taking it slow the next day(s) to rest and prepare for our roadtrip. We'll keep in touch to tell you more about our adventures in Windhoek.
